What Are The Objective Of Applying Lubrication To Engine Parts?

Lubricants have been used for over a thousand years now in almost every industry that demands the use of machines as they ensure smooth functioning. The oil lubricants manufacturers make sure that the lubricant contains 90% base oil and 10% additives which enhance their properties and make them more effective for the use in engine parts.

To reduce friction:

The lubricating oil is responsible for carrying away the heat from the component that is going to be lubricated. The unused oil is then returned back to the oil pan. There are certain engines that make use of external oil coolers which are used to cool down the oil pan and help to keep the temperature of the oil below its flash point. The engine oil must also be resistant to the heat which is why the carbon formation is kept to minimum.

Moreover, if the oil is too thin, it automatically leaks out from the clearances and allows the parts to move freely. On the other hand, if the thickness is way too much, the oil might require more power to get pushed between the surfaces.
